Angel Tree will make Christmas special for families

As we begin to think about Christmas, we offer this reminder of something special we all should consider doing this holiday season.
The Salvation Army will once again provide Christmas assistance of toys and clothing through the Angel Tree program.
Families and individuals without children will also have an opportunity to sign up to receive a grocery gift card to help with holiday food expenses.
We can help in two ways... Once the program is in place, we can donate to make this a special Christmas for local families. And, we can make sure that families and individuals who might qualify for the program are made aware that now is the time to sign up for assistance.
The first round of sign-ups was earlier this week. A second round will be Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 331 E. Main St.
To receive assistance, applicants need to provide a state issued photo I.D., proof of Jefferson County residency, Social Security cards or birth certificates for all household members and proof of income.
The Salvation Army asks that all residents bring gift ideas for each child receiving gifts through the Angel Tree program.
In order to make sure each family has enough, The Salvation Army will not be able to help families who are receiving Christmas assistance from another organization.
A lot of work goes into the Angel Tree program. Make it part of your Christmas plans.
