Again this year, the City of Madison is hosting the Red, White and Boo! Halloween party for all area residents.

Every year the event grows in popularity. If you haven't attended, put it on your trick-or-treat list for Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. One change this year - the event has been moved to the Broadway Fountain.

There are many fine Halloween events scheduled for the next week and parents should decide which are appropriate for their children.

Red, White and Boo began in 2001 after the Sept. 11 attacks as a way to guarantee a safe Halloween night for area families. It was such a success that it has become an annual event.

There will be costume judging, refreshments, balloons, and plenty of fun activities for the entire family.

Official trick-or-treat hours for Madison, Hanover and Trimble County will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween night. Carroll County times will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. also on Oct. 31. Vevay will hold its trick-or-treat hours after the Halloween parade Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

We urge parents to accompany their children as they work their way through the area's neighborhoods. It's getting dark earlier and small children might be difficult to see.

And, as always, parents should instruct their children to wait until they return home before sampling the goodies they collect so that items can be inspected.
