Cooler temperatures and falling leaves remind us that fall - and all too soon - winter is on the way. And, there is one more reminder of the changing of the season.

The Salvation Army has put out a call for volunteers to help with its Red Kettle Campaign.

Every year before the holiday season, the Salvation Army's red kettles appear around town with volunteers collecting money to help those less fortunate.

Raising funds the past few years has been difficult. With more people out of work, many folks have limited money to donate.

But, another way to help is to volunteer to be a bell ringer. The work is satisfying and you meet some wonderful people.

Volunteers can help once for several hours or several times during the holiday season.

Many volunteers are needed.

Bell ringing begins on Nov. 15 and lasts through Dec. 24. Volunteers are needed for two or more hours.

Service and business groups are welcomed to participate.

Ringers are needed Monday through Saturday, and outdoor or semi-indoor locations are available.

As you head into and out of stores to do your shopping, reach deep into your pockets - every spare penny is appreciated, and when added up can make a huge difference.

We must support all of the agencies that serve our neighbors. The need never goes away, but it is especially important as we head into the cold winter months.
