The Courierarea prides itself on the wide variety of offerings related to the arts.

From theater to musical performances to an impressive group of artists, we have so much to offer.

Much of that talent will be on display this holiday season. But those performances and exhibitions don't just happen. They require money and planning.

To that end, Madison received some good news last week. We are one of six Indiana communities selected by the Indiana Arts Commission to participate in a cultural planning consultancy project.

A consultant will work with local organizations to determine the cultural needs of our community.

The Madison Area Arts Alliance and the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County submitted the application.

The local art alliance was formed in September with the mission to find ways to improve and strengthen the area's arts presence.

With the help of the consultant we look forward to the development of a plan where the various venues will complement one another.

The consultant will help set up a foundation and direction for the alliance. And, most important, develop a sustainable plan.
