A favorite summertime activity for area residents is a visit to the Crystal Beach swimming pool.

The city-owned pool offers a variety of activities — from swimming lessons to adult exercise classes — for people of all ages.

The pool was constructed in 1938 as a Works Progress Administration project during the Great Depression years.

Upkeep for the pool is expensive, but the city has done a good job keeping the aging facility in good shape.

But, it takes community support to make it all happen.

The city has made an offer too good to pass up. Through May 24 – when the pool opens for the summer – single-member passes for the summer will cost $40. After the pool opens, the price will return to $50.

Family passes are offered at a discount. For a family of three, a season pass is $120 – as opposed to the full price of $150. For a family of four, a pass is $150; and for a family of five, a pass is $180.

Family pass pricing continues at $30 per additional person.

Daily passes can be purchased for $4 before 4 p.m. and for $3 afterwards.

That’s a pretty good deal for a guaranteed good time.

Weather is always a factor in pool hours, but the pool is set to remain open until the first or second week of August. Hours will be noon to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Passes may be purchased at the Brown Gym from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
