Higginses celebrate 50th anniversary

John and Barbara Higgins
John and Barbara Higgins of Canaan will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Dec. 28, 2013. The couple married Dec. 28, 1963, at Brushy Fork Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Hampton and Rev. Marion Garrett presided.
Mr. Higgins retired from Cummins Engine Company after 30 years of service. He currently farms part-time. Mrs. Higgins is a retired accountant. They are members of Brushy Fork Baptist Church, where Mr. Higgins has served as deacon for many years.
The couple have two children, Tonya Lynn Dilger and husband Nikolaus of Union, Ky. and John Matthew Higgins and wife Deborah of Canaan. They also have seven grandchildren.
They will celebrate with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, in the fellowship hall of Brushy Fork Baptist Church. The event is hosted by their children. All family and friends are invited. In lieu of gifts, the couple would appreciate a favorite memory or an old photograph.
