Smiths celebrate 60th anniversary

Carson T. and Coleta Turner Smith of Blocher will celebrate their 60th anniversary June 20, 2014. The couple married June 20, 1954 at Scaffold Lick Baptist Church in Blocher. The Rev. Emil Williams officiated.

Mr. Smith served in the Navy aboard the USS Saipan for five years. He worked at the Morgan Packing Co. and the American Can Co. He also worked at the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corp., retiring after 37 years of service. He is a member of Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion, the USS Saipan Association and the Indiana Beekeepers Association. Mrs. Smith was an elementary school teacher in Lexington, Marion Township and Kent. She is a member of the Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, the American Heart Association and the Ida Rebekah Lodge. They are members of Scaffold Lick Baptist Church.
They have three children, Carleta Nienaber of Columbus, Cheryl Hoffman of The Woodlands, Texas, and Connie Leap of Madison. They also have two granddaughters.
Their daughters and granddaughters will host a reception in their honor from 3 to 5 p.m. June 15 at Scaffold Lick Baptist Church in Blocher. All family and friends are invited.
