A standing-room-only crowd gathered for the 10th annual National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony Saturday at Weber-Warren-Lewis Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969. The event is held to remember and honor service members who were prisoners of war as well as those who are still considered missing in action. Yancy Denning of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department welcomed those in attendance. Pat Brooks explained the meaning of the POW/MIA ceremony table and introduced VFW Auxiliary members Angie Parks and Kelly Brooks, who read the names of POW/MIA from Indiana and Kentucky. Jeff Chandler performed the Tolling of the Bell. The ceremony later moved outside where Helen Cope led a prayer and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion Honor Guard gave a 21-gun volley before the release of balloons.
