    Most children enjoy their summer break swimming, playing video games and going on family vacations. One group of youngsters in Carrollton squeezed a week into their summer schedules to attend a Shakespeare Camp at the Carroll County Public Library.

    Trenton Boldery pops a wheelie on a pedal tractor Wednesday morning during the 2017 Jefferson County Farm Bureau Pedal Pull. Trenton’s pedaling skills earned him first place in the 71- to 85-pound category during the annual event, which was held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

    Rosie is a lady looking for reassurance and love. She is a gentle girl with a calm demeanor. She is well trained and is very easy to handle, walking well on leash and following her walker’s lead. Zena is a calico with unique markings on her coat. She likes to be admired and will come and put her head against someone when she is ready for affection. The Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter currently has nine dogs or puppies, and 20 cats or kittens available.
