    Jessup is starting to feel depressed and like no one wants him. He lies with his back to his cage door and ignores potential adopters walking by, but he jumps up when someone opens his door. Scrappy Doo has a ferocious bark that he uses to get attention, but his bark is much worse than his “bite.” He is an attentive, little 24 pound, brown Dachshund mix who just wants to please people. The Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter currently has 10 dogs or puppies, and 11 cats or kittens available.     Sometimes we all need a nudge to be the courageous person we want or need to be. We learn by the example of people in our lives who display courage. We can also learn about courage by reading true stories of people who displayed bravery in one form or another.

    George Washington Carver. Rosa Parks. Ruby Bridges. Harriet Tubman. Martin Luther King. Frederick Douglass. They were all celebrated as great African American leaders this past week by kindergartners at E.O. Muncie Elementary School, as part of their studies focusing on Black History Month.
