Art Club offers linocut class
Thursday, January 17, 2013 10:00 AM
The Madison Art Club will offer winter art classes starting in February. Local artist Robert "Bob" Saueressig will present a four-week linocut class starting Feb. 2. The class will meet on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. The registration fee is $75.
Saueressig has studied and worked with various forms of printmaking, including linocut, woodcut, etching, intaglio and serigraph for 30 years.
The class will feature the basic methods of cutting a linoleum block, use of inks and various transfer methods. It will also explore various materials that can be used to create an image for the transfer to paper and other materials.
Students should bring small drawings or photos of images they want to produce. The class will work with small blocks, 5x7 inches at the largest. Saueressig will teach class members how to draw or transfer drawings to the blocks, the various ways to cut the blocks, and how to ink and print onto various papers and other materials. Starter kits are available for purchase at Galatea's Art Store.
