Jance Carter, 32, is the third person to graduate from the Jefferson County Drug Court.

Carter graduated Tuesday after going through the 19-month program. He is enrolled full-time at Ivy Tech Community College, where he completed his first year with a 4.0 grade point average.

Carter intends to transfer to Indiana University Southeast and obtain a bachelor's degree in biology. He also obtained part-time employment while participating in the drug court, holding the same jobs for more than 18 months and a promotion to a management position.

Carter said he now has a new view on the criminal justice system as a result of his participation in the drug court, saying he now sees it as a means of support and assistance.

Jefferson Superior Court Judge Alison Frazier, who supervises the drug court, said that Jance has been a silent warrior in drug court.

"He works hard, harder, and harder still, and never complains," Frazier said in a release. "Jance has created endless possibilities for himself, and he can have whatever life he chooses."
