Jefferson County Homemakers Council

The Jefferson County Extension Homemakers Council met Aug. 1 at 9:15 a.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library with 10 members present. President Lisa Kramer opened the meeting. Secretary Dorothy Canada read the minutes. Treasurer Ruth Kramer gave a financial report. Thank you notes were received from 4-H members who received scholarships from the homemakers. The quilt committee continues to meet on the first and third Tuesday at Hanover Baptist Church. All are welcome. Funds raised from the quilt are used to for local scholarships. Achievement Day was set for Sept. 15 at Kent United Methodist Church. The theme will be backyard friends. The next council meeting will be Sept. 5 at the library.

Sunshine Homemakers

The Sunshine Homemakers met Aug. 7 at Hanover Baptist Church at 2 p.m. President Dorothy Morgan opened the meeting with the Extension Homemakers Creed, the Pledge of Allegiance and the song of the month, "In The Good Old Summertime." Sandi Koehler gave devotions from Genesis 18:1-8. Members answered roll call with a story about a memorable vacation. Secretary Marie Black and treasurer Barbara Wykoff gave reports. The quote of the month was from Henry Ward Beecher, "Of all the music that reached farthest into heaven, it is the beating of a loving heart." The thought for the month was, "Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts." The club will meet again Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at the church.
