Herbert, top, is a gentleman that is looking for a home in his senior years. He enjoys being active, going for walks and being held. He is a 7 to 9-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound that weighs 66 lbs.

Athalia. bottom, is a sweet, 4 to 5-month-old, brown tabby with soft sort-hair. She likes to bat around cat toys. For homes with other cats, she does play rough. They are both being sponsored for $50 of their adoption and spay/neuter fees by the children at Southwestern Elementary School.

The Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter currently has more than 13 dogs and puppies, and 10 cats and kittens available. Pictures of additional pets waiting for adoption can be seen at www.sisaveapet.com.

Normal shelter hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m., Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. It is closed Tuesday. The shelter number is (812) 273-1788 and their email is jcas39@seidata.com.

The shelter is collecting aluminum cans for the dog and cat medical fund. Donors can drop off rinsed and dried aluminum cans at the shelter.

Volunteers are always welcome at the shelter to help with walking dogs, playing with puppies and kittens and many other tasks. Volunteers must be 16 years old.

Donations can be mailed to 2727 Hannah Drive, Madison, IN 47250 or dropped off during shelter hours.

Animals should not be abandoned outside of the shelter or dropped off at the shelter after hours.
