Wednesday, July 10, 2013 11:00 AM
The Jefferson County Salvation Army will host its annual Tools for School program this month to provide children with free backpacks, school supplies and back-to-school clothing.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 27 at the Salvation Army building, 331 E. Main St.
Required identification include: Proof of residence in Jefferson County (This could be a current driver's license, state-issued picture I.D., or a current bill showing a Jefferson County address) or a Social Security card for any child not present at the event.
The organization also is looking for volunteers to help assemble book bags at 4 p.m. on July 25 and to help out the day of the event with registration, handing out backpacks and serving refreshments.
Anyone with questions about receiving schools supplies through Tools for School or volunteering to help with the program can call Lts. Matthew or Emily Phelps at (812) 265-2157 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
