Mary Carrington Truax of Madison was named to the dean's list at Clemson University for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 school year. Truax is majoring in communication studies. To be named to the list, a student must earn a grade point average from 3.50 to 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
Trent Persinger of Madison was named to the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis School of Informatics dean's list for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 school year. Persinger is the son of Carol Persinger of Madison and Rick and Kathy Persinger of Madison. He is a 2008 graduate of Southwestern High School.
Rachel Muessel of Madison, a junior at Centre College, is studying in France during CentreTerm, the college's three-week winter term. Under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Fieberg, associate professor of chemistry, the course is focused on the progression of French painting from the 1860's to the 1900's. Students spend time in art museums, conservation labs, and actual painting sites of important artists in Paris and Provence. The scientific study includes light and its interaction with matter, color mixing, chemical and physical causes of color, and the biology of vision. Muessel is the daughter of John and Sally Muessel of Madison. She is a graduate of Shawe Memorial High School.
Three Carrollton, Ky. residents were named to the dean's list at Thomas More College for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 school year. Area residents recognized for their academic achievement were Maria Pascual, Danielle Adams and Alexander Adams.
Megan Harris of Worthville, Ky. was accepted to Union College for the fall semester of the 2013-2014 school year.
The Southwestern Middle School recently announced the students of the month for December 2012. Students selected for recognition by their teachers were:
Sixth Grade: Reading/English, Caleb Ream and Adam Anderson; math, Kassey Worcester and Josh Files; social studies, Kaytlynn Sommer and Harley Middleton; band, Byron Gorrell; science, Dobs Laymon and Benjamin McDonald; and health, John Sutter and Tessa Bowling.
Seventh Grade: English, Ciarra Reckers and Brook Hilleary; enrichment, Julianna Lezama, Christian Balboa and Corey Schmitter; pre-algebra, Alicia Dean, Cassie Rudolph, Corbin Kelton and Conner Skirvin; science, Cole Henrix and Tori Abbott; technology education, Jadelynn Abbott and Caitlin Battjes; social studies, Anthony Kidd and Julianna Lezama; health, Christian Shelton and Brianna Trosper; band, Zachary Files; and reading, Kayla Rodriguez, Sean Bennett and Kaylee Hertz.
Eighth Grade: Science, Meagan Ralston and Hannah Shaffer; social studies, Ashton Elliott and Johnny Hunt; pre-algebra, Macayla Hatchel; English, Chelse Crittenden and Logan Sprong; health, Logan Sprong and Annabelle Vosmeier; and algebra, Katelyn Desch.
