Borden out-battles Lady Rebels

Southwestern battled Borden from start to finish but the Braves came out on top 3-2 in girls tennis action in Hanover.
Borden, ranked fifth in the district, rebounded to take two of three singles matches over the Rebels after splitting the doublesmat Hanover Park.
Southwestern coach Kenny Garrett said the Rebels (4-1) gave 100 percent. "It was all I expected tonight against a very good Borden team," Garrett said. "We hung tough but just could not get over the hump to pull out the team win."
Match results were: Singles - No. 1 Abby Ellis (B) d. Abbey Garrett (SW) 6-0, 6-2; No. 2 Sarah Anderson (SW) d. Sarah Hurst (B) 6-3, 7-5; No. 3 Kendyl Wheatly (B) d. Emily Watkins (SW) 6-0, 6-0; Doubles - No. 1 Jordan Worcester, Kearstin Bruther (SW) d. Mckenzie Owens, Sidney Martin (B) 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4); No. 2 Bailee Kruer, Kaelan Harmes (B) d. Meredith Webber, Heather Totten (SW) 6-4, 6-3.
Shawe scores fifth win
Shawe's girls recorded their fifth win of the season Wednesday, 5-0 over New Washington at home.
Shawe (5-2) battled to two tough wins in doubles before easily sweeping the singles for the shutout.
"This was a big confidence booster for us tonight," Shawe coach Steve Sims said. "... This might be just what we need going forward."
Match results were: Singles - No. 1 Taylor Grote (SM) d. Melanie Dieterlen (NW) 6-2, 6-2; No. 2 Claire Higgins (SM) d. Olivia Graebe (NW) 6-1, 6-2; No. 3 Megan Hill (SM) d. Regan Zimmerman (NW) 6-1, 6-2; Doubles - No. 1 Carson Hambrick, Jenna Armstrong (SM) d. Morgan Baird, Lacy Higbie (NW) 5-7, 6-3, 7-5; No. 2 Hannah Storm, Lauren Cieslinski (SM) d. Katie Harrod, Beth Kehrwald (NW) 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Trimble girls fall 3-2
Trimble County's girls swept the doubles but lost the singles in a 3-2 loss to North Bullitt Wednesday in Bedford.
"An awesome job goes to the doubles teams for Trimble," Raiders head coach Vanita Fogle said. "They are placing a lot of their balls and hitting hard consistently to be winners in their matches."
Match results were: Singles - No. 1 Raven Thomas (NB) d. Kim Abbett (TC) 6-0, 6-1; No. 2 Myrissa Druien (NB) d. Destiny Harp (TC) 6-1, 6-1; No. 3 Megan Irvin (NB) d. Hope Caswell (TC) 6-3, 6-1; Doubles - No. 1 Micah Hess, Alex Lawhorn (TC) d. Lexe Vanmeter, Kess Ballard (NB) 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Diane Payton, Whitney Wingham (TC) d. Jessica Duncan, N/A (NB) 6-3, 6-1.
Elsewhere, Trimble's boys played to a 1-1 split.
North Bullitt's Matteo Bedenedo defeated Trimble's Nathan Gibson 6-0, 6-0 in singles play while Alex Dixon and Kenny Payton defeated North's Matthew Faith and Carter Campbell 6-7 (5-7), 11-9, (1-0) in number two doubles action.
