TOKYO, Japan - Madison's Bryan Bullington came up on the short end of a 4-3 loss to the Yomiuri Giants in Hiroshima's 2013 season opener Friday at the Tokyo Dome.

Bullington, a 1999 graduate of Madison making his first opening day start in his third season of Japanese baseball, gave up only four hits over 6 2/3 innings while striking out two and walking one on 76 pitches.

Unfortunately for Bullington, two of the hits were home runs by Jose Lopez and Shuichi Murata and the other two were back-to-back leadoff singles in the bottom of the seventh. Bullington was then tagged with both runs and the loss when reliever Takeru Imamura gave up a two-out, two-run single to Ryota Wakiya.

Hiroshima out-hit the Giants 11-6 but scored just three runs. Bullington dropped to 0-1 on the season with a 5.40 ERA.
