CHIBA CITY, Japan - Former Madison baseball standout Bryan Bullington made his first true preseason start Sunday and gave up nine runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 16-8 loss to Chiba Lotte at QVC Marine Field.

Bullington, a 1999 graduate of Madison, struck out one, walked three and hit a batter in the 90-pitch exhibition outing. Chiba Lotte's nine hits off Bullington included three doubles and a triple.

The Carp currently have Bullington, a fourth year pro in Japan, slotted as their number two starter behind staff ace Kenta Maeda.
