HIROSHIMA, Japan - Madison's Bryan Bullington ran his win streak to six games with a 3-1 victory over the Hanshin Tigers on Thursday at Mazda Stadium in Hiroshima.
Bullington, 32 and a 1999 graduate of Madison where he was Indiana's Mr. Baseball, worked seven strong innings, scattering four hits and three walks to give up one run while striking out three.
Hanshin's lone run came in the top of the first inning on a one-out home run by third baseman Katsuhiko Saka. Bullington allowed a double and a walk after the homer but then got out of the inning and shut the Tigers down on a two-hitter the rest of the way in a 98-pitch outing.
Now 10-9 with a 3.37 ERA in 27 starts, Bullington is 6-0 in his last eight starts and has not lost since July 30.
The Carp, battling for their first Central League top three finish in 14 years and first playoff spot since 1990, are now third in the division with a 64-67-2 record.
