Carroll opens indoor season in track & field

Carroll County's track & field team saw its first action of the season at the University of Kentucky's Wildcat Classic indoor invitational on Saturday.
"This was a good start for the Panthers' 2013 season against some of the best athletes from across the state of Kentucky," Carroll coach Joe Creager said. "The meet had several records broken showing to the top level quality of the athletes in competition there. As we progress through the season, we look to use this as a reference for where we started and how to get to where we are going."
Results for the Carroll boys were: Cody Osborne, 26th, 60 hurdles, 11.13, 29th, long jump, 14-11.5 and 61st, 200 dash, 28.88; Brandon Franklin, 31st, shot put, 34-4.25 and 64th, 60 dash, 8.94; Chase Hartman, 40th, shot put, 24-0.25 and 63rd, 60 dash, 8.92; Michael Burns, 49th, 400 dash, 59.69, 64th, 800 run, 2:33.65 and 64th, long jump; Joseph Parker, 62nd, 60 dash, 8.88; and Avery Franklin, 66th, 800 run, 2:34.19.
Jessie Smith finished 23rd in the girls long jump in 11 feet, 7.25 inches and 56th in the 60-meter dash in 10.20.
The Panthers are again in action on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
