Carroll win over Henry may be costly due to Gibson injury

Carroll County picked up a big district win on the road but may have lost its top player to injury in the Panthers' 82-50 boys basketball win at Henry County on Wednesday.
Senior Dallas Gibson, who had 21 points and 14 rebounds, went down hard after a foul around the basket with about four minutes to play and needed help getting off the floor. According to Carroll head coach Carroll Yager, Gibson told coaches that he heard a "pop" in his knee when he was injured.
Gibson, who leads the Courierarea in both scoring and rebounding, is scheduled to have an MRI and Yager is bracing for the worst.
"It doesn't look good. At minimum he's probably out at least three or four games," Yager said. "I hate it for him. He's a senior and he was having a great season. You hate to see that happen."
The Panthers (8-5, 2-2 District 31, 4-2 North Central Kentucky) was already adjusting to life without another key starter, senior point guard Brandon Stewart who broke an arm last week.
Carroll County got into the groove quickly against Henry to avenge a loss from last month. The Panthers led 16-8 after the first quarter and 35-18 at halftime. Carroll took a 53-40 lead into the fourth before blowing the Wildcats out in the final quarter.
"This was probably the best game that we have played this season in all areas," Yager said. "The guys were getting accustomed to their new roles with Brandon out and doing well. This is a very coachable group and they are willing to do whatever is asked of them. We'll just have to pick it up some more."
Trey Boles tied Gibson for game-high honors with 21 points while Austin Crowell had 11 points.
Landon New led Henry County with 12 points. Brad West scored 11 and Chase Howard had 10.
Carroll County visits Gallatin County for another district game on Friday.
