- Hanover College standout Courtney Prater, a senior from Anderson Lapel, has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Prater, a 5-foot-9 forward, led the Panthers to a 1-1 mark last week, scoring 15 points with six rebounds in a 60-55 win at rival Franklin Wednesday and a career-high 28 points and 12 rebounds in an 85-80 overtime loss at Defiance Saturday.
For the week, Prater averaged 21.5 points, nine rebounds, and two steals per game. Prater is averaging 19.2 points and 8.0 rebounds through the Panthers' first six games of the season. She is 42-of-86 (48.8%) from the field and 31-of-45 (68.9%) at the foul line.
Defiance College senior guard Logan Wolfrum was named HCAC player of the week for men's basketball.
Wolfrum averaged a double-double of 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to go with 3.5 assists while shooting 48.5 percent from the field in two games - including a 15-point, 9-rebound outing in a win over Hanover.
Hanover College's women. now 4-2 overall and 1-2 HCAC, will visit Terre Haute to face Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday.
- Trimble County's junior varsity boys basketball team dropped a 61-23 decision at South Oldham Monday in Crestwood.
The Raiders were led in scoring by Dusty Wyssbrod with nine points while Josh Creech added eight.
South Oldham was led by Josh Thomas with 11 points and Isaac Fields scored 10.
The Raiders host Oldham County Friday.
- Madison's freshman boys basketball team got back on a winning track Monday 44-27 over Switzerland County.
The Cubs' Carson Compton led all scorers with 16 points to go with nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Chad Ison scored 11 points and Reece Dryden grabbed 10 rebounds and picked up three assists to go with eight points.
Madison's coaches named Compton the Offensive Player of the Game while Dryden was the Defensive Player of the Game and Trey Holt was the 6th Man of the game.
- Switzerland County High School's girls basketball team will be holding an Angel Tree Game Toy Drive tonight.
The Lady Pacers host South Ripley and fans are asked to bring a new, never opened toy. Those who do will be entered to win free Nike Pacer gear and two buffet passes to Belterra Casino and Resort. The drawing will be held at the end of the third quarter.
