- Madison's boys junior varsity basketball team lost to Columbus East 48-39 on Friday in Madison.

The Cubs were led by Tucker Callis with nine points while Quenten White scored eight.

Madison, now 12-6, visits South Ripley on Tuesday.



- Trimble County's jayvee boys basketball team lost to Whitefield Academy 45-35 Thursday at home.

Leighton Taylor led the Raiders with 15 points, Josh Creech scored nine and Josh Rexroat had eight.

On Tuesday, Trimble County was just a rimmed-out 3-pointer by Creech from defeating Henry County but fell 54-44 in overtime.

Creech led the Raiders with 14 points while Taylor added 11.



- Switzerland County's jayvee boys basketball team lost to Franklin County 43-38 at home on Tuesday.

Tristen Bolton had 11 points and seven rebounds to lead the Pacers. Nathan Hunter had 10 points, four rebounds and four steals.

On Friday, Switzerland lost to Jac-Cen-Del 49-31 at home.

Zach Whitaker led the Pacers with nine points. Hunter scored eight.

Switzerland, now 14-5, visits Madison on Friday.



- Shawe Memorial's Junior High's girls basketball teams split a pair of games with Immanuel Lutheran on Tuesday.

The seventh grade lost 41-35. Kate Grote had 15 points and Megan Hesse scored nine.

The eighth grade won 24-17. Megg Hensler scored eight points and Claire Higgins had seven.

On Thursday, Shawe swept Switzerland County.

The seventh grade won 30-12. Grote had 11 points and Hesse scored 10 points.

The eighth grade won 38-23. Higgins had 12 points, Hensler scored 10 and Hesse had seven.



- Madison's fourth grade girls basketball team won the Switzerland County Jefferson County League and Tournament over the weekend.

Members of the team are: Jordyn Bilz, Brett Cahall, Chloe Ferris, Jenna Imel, Lundun Perry, Lanie Stockdale and Gracie True. The team is coached by Tiffany Sever and LeeAnn Imel.

Madison is currently 12-2 on the season.



- Southwestern Junior High's girls basketball teams swept Switzerland County on Monday.

The seventh grade won 31-16. Taylor Cole scored 19 points while Kate Sampson and Kayla Adkins chipped in four each.

The eighth grade (11-2) breezed to a 46-11 win. Maliah Howard had a season high 28 points, followed by Kelsi Brierly with six and Michaela Mahoney with five.

Taylar Jordan led Switzerland with seven points.

Southwestern hosts Rising Sun on Wednesday.



- Madison Junior High's wrestling team defeated Scottsburg 123-12 on Wednesday.

Winners for the Bears were: Camden Spears, Daunte O'Banion, Logan Long, Kolin Hazelwood, Quinton Farris, Dalton Sizemore, Dalton Leveck, Trenton Anderson, Hunter Ray, Dalton Rowlett, Bailey Quiggle, Gabe Bennett, Gage Sproles, Ethan Schafer, Daegon Branham, Brendon Shook, Corbin Hughes, Logan Kent, Christian Gonzalez, Marcus Schoonover and Raymond Clutter.



- Shawe Memorial Junior/Senior High School is currently looking for coaches in junior high golf and junior high tennis.

- The Southwestern High School cheerleaders will hold a cheer clinic from 1-4 p.m. today,

Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of cheering, taught sideline cheers, and a dance routine. Each participant will be given a T-shirt, hair bow, mini pom-poms, drinks/snack at the clinic, and admission to the game that evening where they will perform for the crowd.

- The Madison Cub baseball team will host a camp for players in grades three through eight on Sunday, Feb. 24, and March 3.

The cost of the camp is $40 and will last from 1-3 p.m. each day. Players will learn the proper fundamentals in baserunning, pitching, hitting, and fielding.

It is preferred that campers pre-register by contacting coach Shannon Barger at sbarger@madison.k12.in.us. Players can also register on the first day of the camp at the high school gym.



- Madison Parks Department is accepting quotes for awards, hats, visors, T-shirts, basketball jerseys and football jerseys for its 2013 adult and youth sports seasons.

Businesses interested in submitting a quote should stop by the Parks Office located in the Brown Gym on Broadway to pick up

All quotes must be received no later than Friday, Feb. 22.

All quotes will be opened at the Feb. 27 Madison Parks Board meeting at city hall.

- The Lide White Memorial Boys & Girls Club will offer a Fast-Pitch Softball Pitching Clinic on Fridays, starting on March 1 from 4-5 p.m. in the Beano Goodman gymnasium.

The clinic is designed for girls ages 7-14 to learn the techniques and mechanics of pitching. The cost is $5 per participant per session or $30 for the six-week clinic, the participant would also receive a clinic T-shirt.
