- Hanover College's Katie Gahimer has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week.

The senior forward from North Decatur High School earned her first career double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 61-55 loss to Transylvania on Wednesday. She followed that performance with a new career-high 22 points to lead the Panthers to a 74-63 win over Rose-Hulman on Saturday.



- Carroll County High School's cheerleaders were named Cheer LTDs Southern Kentucky Varsity Non-Tumble champions recently.

The squad competed at Adair County High school on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Jessica Price was named Senior Cheer Individual Champion at the same event and Jessica Peck, Jessica Price, Jasmine Beach, Doodle Amick and Darian Skirvin were named Senior Group Stunt Second runner-up.

The squad is coached by Ashlea Ramsey and Shelly Hunt.

With the win, Carroll Count received a bid to compete at Cheer LTD Nationals in Myrtle Beach, S.C., March 15-17.



- Shawe Memorial Junior/Senior High School is currently looking for coaches in junior high golf and junior high tennis.

Both seasons start in mid-March and anyone interested in either position should call Shawe Memorial Athletic Director Stephen Sims at (812) 273-2150, Ext. 229.



- The Southwestern Middle School softball coaches will hold a parent meeting on Friday in the Southwestern High School cafeteria at 5 p.m.

The meeting is for parents of any sixth, seventh or eighth grader interested in playing middle school softball. If you were unable to attend the meeting in January, please attend this meeting.

- The Madison Cub baseball team will host a camp for players in grades three through eight on Sunday and on March 3.

The cost of the camp is $40 and will last from 1-3 p.m. each day. Players will learn the proper fundamentals in baserunning, pitching, hitting, and fielding.

It is preferred that campers pre-register by contacting coach Shannon Barger at sbarger@madison.k12.in.us. Players can also register on the first day of the camp at the high school gym.



- Madison Parks Department is accepting quotes for awards, hats, visors, T-shirts, basketball jerseys and football jerseys for its 2013 adult and youth sports seasons.

Businesses interested in submitting a quote should stop by the Parks Office located in the Brown Gym on Broadway to pick up the necessary information. All quotes must be received no later than Friday.

All quotes will be opened at the Feb. 27 Madison Parks Board meeting at city hall.

- The Lide White Memorial Boys & Girls Club will offer a Fast-Pitch Softball Pitching Clinic on Fridays, starting on March 1 from 4-5 p.m. in the Beano Goodman gymnasium.

The clinic is designed for girls ages 7-14 to learn the techniques and mechanics of pitching. The cost is $5 per participant per session or $30 for the six-week clinic, the participant would also receive a clinic T-shirt.
