- Southwestern's Morgan Mahoney and Gunnar Henry and Switzerland County's Austin Clark have been named Ohio River Valley Conference players of the week.

Mahoney, a senior forward, had 29 points, 23 rebounds, seven deflections and six steals in two games for the Rebels last week.

Henry, a senior guard, had 46 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists in two games for Southwestern.

Clark, a junior forward, scored a career-high 31 points, 13 rebounds and four assists against Rising Sun.

Rising Sun's Kennedy Oser shared girls player of the week honors.



- Madison's freshman boys basketball team lost to Columbus East 31-19 on Monday.

Carson Compton scored 10 points, Reece Dryden was the defensive player of the game and Trey Holt was the sixth man for the evening.



- Shawe Junior High's eighth grade girls basketball team defeated Medora 46-11 on Monday.

Claire Higgins led Shawe with 16 points while Megg Hensler scored 14.



- Southwestern Junior High's girls basketball teams swept Madison on Tuesday.

The seventh grade (4-8) won 20-16. Taylor Cole led Southwestern with 10 points and Hannah Ritchie scored four. Emma Beasley led the Bears with eight points, Regin Dean had six and Kristen Aldridge had two.

The eighth grade (7-2) won 41-18. Kelsi Brierly had 21 points and Maliah Howard scored 10 for the Rebels. Sage Sproles led Madison with 12 points.

On Monday, Southwestern was swept by Austin.

The seventh grade lost 39-14. Cole led the Rebels with six points followed by Kayla Adkins with four.

The eighth grade lost 37-32. Howard had 21 points for Southwestern.

On Wednesday, Madison's seventh grade team lost to New Albany Scribner 25-21. Beasley had 10 points and Dean scored six.

Southwestern visit Switzerland County today. Madison visits Jennings County on Monday. 



- The Knights of Columbus held its annual Free Throw Tournament Jan. 19 at Shawe Memorial High School's Meny Gymnasium.

Winners at Shawe advance to the District Free Throw tournament to be held at St. Mary's Community Center in North Vernon on Feb. 3.

Local winners included, Chloe Ferris, 10 year old girls; Carson Denton, 10 year old boys; Chandler Cole, 11 year old boys; Kristen Snodgrass, 13 year old girls; Megan Hesse, 13 year old girls; and Carson Hambrick, 14 year old girls.



- Carroll County's girls basketball team is offering a chance to win a car at Saturday's game at Eminence.

In order to win the car, the participant must make a half court shot, a lay-up, a free throw, and a 3-pointer in 24 seconds.

The team is selling raffle tickets for $5.



- Hanover Baptist Church is currently holding signups for its winter basketball league thorough Jan. 31.

The league starts Feb. 9 and is open to all students in grades preschool through high school. The cost is $35 each.
