- Hanover College's Courtney Prater has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's women's basketball player of the week for the second time.
Prater, a senior foward from Anderson, led the Panthers to a 3-1 record during the holiday break. She had 14 points in an 80-74 win over Mississippi College and added 23 points and six rebounds to help Hanover erase a 28-point second half deficit in an 80-77 win over Centre.
Out in California, Prater posted 25 points and 13 rebounds in a loss at Redlands and added 18 points with five rebounds in a 109-104 win at La Verne.
- Madison's jayvee boys basketball team defeated Salem 53-19 on the road Friday.
Kevin Stewart led the Cubs with 12 points. Tucker Callis scored 10.
Madison, now 7-1, hosts Scottsburg Friday.
- Madison's seventh grade boys basketball team won the Batesville Holiday Tournament over the weekend.
The Bears defeated Rushville 45-18 in the first game. Connor Thurnall had 14 points for Madison while A.J. Karst and Braydon Perry added seven points each.
In the championship, Madison beat Connersville 45-27. Thurnall had 20 points while Landon Connor and Perry scored seven each.
Madison, now 9-2 on the season, travels to Milan on Monday.
- Switzerland County's boys junior varsity basketball team defeated South Dearborn 45-34 Wednesday in the jayvee semifinals of the Rivertown Classic basketball tourney.
Riley Phagan led the Swiss with 17 points, three rebounds and three steals while Nathan Hunter scored 12 to go with seven rebounds amd two steals. Ben Curran added eight points, six rebounds and three assists and Justus Powell scored six to go with five rebounds and two assists.
The Pacers advance to play Lawrenceburg in the championship game at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
