- Madison's football program held its annual awards banquet recently with 59 players receiving letters or participation awards.

Award winners were: David Gee, Claw Award; Dalton Arbuckle, Defensive MVP and Captain; Carson Compton, New Comer Award; Kyle Callahan, Captain; Deron Hammond, Iron Man and Fang Awards; Dylan Bilz, Coaches Award and HHC Academic All-Conference; Hunter Sego, HHC Academic All-Conference; Carson Cheatham, Most Improved; Wayne Sherbahn, Offensive MVP; Damon Wilson, Jon Menke Mental Attitude Award; and Trey Geer, Scout Player Award.

Jordan Partee was also named All-Hoosier Hills Conference at defensive back and Wayne Sherbahn was named All-HHC honorable mention at running back. They will be honored at the HHC banquet in Seymour on Dec. 12.



- Switzerland County's jayvee boys basketball team defeated Southwestern 47-17 at home on Saturday.

Nathan Hunter had 17 points and six rebounds to lead Switzerland while Riley Phagan had 14. Josiah Lawson led Southwestern had seven.

Switzerland opened the 2012-13 season with a 40-29 win at Oldenburg on Tuesday.

Phagan had 12 points to lead the Pacers and Ben Curran had 10 points and five rebounds.

Switzerland (2-0) hosts Trinity Lutheran Friday. Southwestern hosts Shawe Friday.



- Madison's seventh grade girls basketball team defeated New Albany Hazelwood 19-8 on Monday.

Emma Beasley led the Bears with 13 points. Netti Eigel followed with four points and Hannah Imel rounded out the scoring with two points.

- Madison's girls track and field team will begin conditioning on Wednesday after school.

- Switzerland County High School's girls basketball team will be holding an Angel Tree Game Toy Drive on Dec. 11.

The Lady Pacers host South Ripley that day and fans are asked to bring a new, never opened toy and will be entered to win free Nike Pacer gear. The drawing will be held at the end of the third quarter.
