- Madison's boys and girls cross country teams held their awards banquet recently.
Paige Hess and Landon Perry were named the squad's Most Valuable Runners. Other awards were: Ashlee Allen and Joshua Howell, Most Valuable Freshman; Kayla Cieslinski and Quenton White, X Factor; Hannah Miller and Justin Robertson, Rising Star; Gabby Nay and Alex Nunan, Academic; Cieslinski and Robertson, Most Improved; Nay, Hess, Nunan, David Gibson, and Perry, Captain Awards; and Hannah Brady and Gibson, Heart Award.
- Southwestern's jayvee girls basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with a come-from-behind 31-29 win at Charlestown on Thursday.
The Lady Rebels trailed by as many as four in the third quarter before rallying for the win.
Debbie Hardy led Southwestern with 17 points while Sam Ison scored six.
Southwestern, now 1-0, hosts Eastern (Pekin) in its home opener on Saturday.
- Southwestern High School will honor all veterans during its girls basketball home opener against Eastern (Pekin) on Saturday.
All veterans and active military will be given free admission to the game and the school will have a short ceremony honoring veterans in between the junior varsity and varsity games. The jayvee game will begin at 6 p.m.
- The Girls on the Run 5K Fun Run is Saturday, Nov. 17 starting at 9 a.m. The race begins at Madison Junior High School and the fee is $15. To register, visit www.kdhmadison.org.
