- Madison golfer Amanda Detmer has been named an All-State selection by the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association.

Detmer, a sophomore, reached the state finals for the second-straight year. She lost only three tournaments all season in an impressive overall campaign.

Also named to the team were: Roncalli's Abbey Gleixner, Western's Allison Lindley, Valparaiso's Harley Dubsky, East Noble's Katie Sharp, Castle's Kayla Katterhenry, Marion's Kayla Adamson, Chesterton's Kelly Grassel, Richmond's Erin Ingram, Cathedral's Karli LaGrotte, Penn's Kari Bellville, Anderson's Morgan Nadaline, Lafayette Jefferson's Samantha Hatter, Seymour's Paxton DeHaven, Cascade's Jessica Smyth, Yorktown's Kennedy Windan, and Bloomington South's Cherise Otter.



- Shawe cross country runner Laura Hesse and Southwestern coach Zac Nussbaum have been honored by the Ohio River Valley Conference.

Hesse was named the ORVC's Mental Attitude Award winner for girls cross country. Nussbaum, whose Lady Rebels' won the girls ORVC crown, was named coach of the year.

In boys cross country, Milan's Russell Pitts and South Ripley's Zach Raab shared the Mental Attitude Award. South Ripley's Jim Cole was named coach of the year.



- Madison junior Jordan Griffith finished tied for 39th at the Indiana Golf Foundation Oakley Hoosier Junior Championships over the weekend.

Griffith shot an opening round 75 on Saturday but slipped to an 85 on Sunday to finish 16 over with a 160.

Columbus' Michael VanDeventer shot a 147 (74-73) to win the tournament. He won a playoff with Noblesville's Jackson Wright (72-75-147).



- Madison's Malte Frenzel dominated play to win the 16 and under division of the Seymour SmashTennis Tournament on Saturday.

Frenzel, a foreign exchange student from Germany, dropped only three games in the first two rounds before facing his greatest challenge of the day, Madison's Kyle Sauley in the semifinals. Frenzel beat his teammate 6-3, 6-2 then beat Seymour's Alex Craig 6-0, 6-2 in the finals.

Madison's Noah Stookey lost his first match but won his next two in the consolation round. Stookey beat another Cub, Cole Callahan, 6-2, 7-5, in the consolation semifinals.



- Southwestern High School's cheerleaders recently placed third in a cheer competition at the Versailles Fall Festival held Saturday, Sept. 29. It was the squad's first cheerleading competition in eight years.

Team members include: Emily Prescher, Alexis Joseph, Katelyn King, Ashley Watkins, Allie Webster, Mariah Franklin, Molly Schaffer, Abby Simpson, Jade Shepherd and Mallorie Mayer. The squad's co-captains are Maggie Pike and Lesha Cosby.



- Southwestern's junior varsity volleyball team finished its season with losses to Jeffersonville and Christian Academy recently.

The Rebels lost to Jeffersonville 25-12, 25-20 on Wednesday. Ashley Desch had two aces, Emily Anderson was 32-for-35 setting with eight assists, and Kaity Anderson and Zaynah Watson each had three kills.

Southwestern lost to Christian 25-8, 25-18 on Thursday. Kaity Anderson had three aces and two kills, Emily Anderson was 34-for-36 setting with five assists and two kills, and Chelsea Griffin had two kills.

Southwestern ends its season with a 12-11 record.



- The Jefferson County Wiffleball Association will hold an organizational meeting today.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. and will be held at the field across from the skate park at the Rucker Sports Complex.



- The Hanover College Dance Team is offering Hip Hop/Jazz dance lessons for local girls ages 7-12 on Sundays from 4-5 p.m. with one of the team members.

- Madison Parks Department is currently looking for volunteers to coach Little League Basketball for boys and girls in fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

A coaches meeting is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Brown Gym for anyone interested in coaching.

- Tickets for Madison's football sectional opener at Evansville Reitz are now available at the Madison athletic office.

Madison plays Reitz on Friday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. EDT.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the gate or in the athletic office through Friday.
