Cubs 5 strokes back at New Castle

Madison boys golf team played within five strokes of a first place finish Saturday at the New Castle Invitational at Westwood Golf Club.
The Cubs shot a 319 to invitational winner Connersville's 314. Richmond finished third with a 324.
Dylan Bilz led the way for Madison with a 78. Jordan Griffith was a stroke back at 79 while Carson Cheatham and Mitchell Seng each carded 81s to round out the Cubs' scoring. Connor Kiefer shot a non-scoring 88.
Host New Castle was fourth with a 326 follwoed by Marion 349, Jay County 353, Shenandoah 353, New Castle (JV) 361, Cambridge City Lincoln 378, Muncie South 381, and Hagerstown 405.
Marion's Zach Seeler was medalist with a 39-35-74.
Madison will now play in the Hoosier Hills Conference championship Saturday at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour.
Rebels' 179 not enough against Batesville on road
After finishing seventh in the Southern Indiana Open on Saturday, Southwestern's boys golf team finished second in a three-way match on Monday against Batesville and Oldenburg Academy at the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
The Rebels shot a 179, 13 strokes back of Batesville's 166. Oldenburg Academy was a distant third at 301.
Southwestern's Michael Perry carded a five-over par 40 to share medalist honors with Batesville's Dominic Schildknecht.
Stacey Noble was next for the Rebels with a 45, Ashton Hill shot a 46 and Brynen Chitwood fired a 48. Stuart Bramer carded a 56 in a non-scoring round.
For Batesville, Alec Giesting and Billy Carroll had a pair of 41s. Henry Lachou shot a 44.
Angelo Lipps had a 66 for Oldenburg while Jacob Moorman shot a 69 and Max Morman and Bobby Ash shot a 78 and 88, respectively.
Southwestern hosts New Washington and Borden on Wednesday.
