SHREVEPORT, La. - Madison golfer Amanda Detmer made a big move in the final round of the David Toms Foundation Shreveport junior golf tourney contested July 22-25 at Southern Trace Country Club there.
Detmer, who was tied for 16th after the first round and stood 17th entering the final 18 holes, carded a one-over par 73 to finish tied for 8th in the event.
Detmer's final round 73 tied with Ashley Malinchak of Parkland, Fla., for the best round over the final 18. The 73 was also tied for the fourth best round of the 54-hole event behind a trio of 72s that all came in the opening round.
A junior at Madison this fall, Detmer finished 14 strokes back of winner Kesaree Rojanapeansatith, of Nonthaburi, Thailand, who secured the victory in a sudden death playoff over Maddie McCrary of Wylie, Texas.
Detmer's play got stronger as the 54-hole event progressed. She followed up an opening round 83 with a second round 81 before finishing up with the 73 for a 237.
