Shawe Memorial's Liz Grote qualified for the finals and five local relay teams also advanced to the next round after the preliminaries of the IHSAA Girls Swim Sectional Thursday at Floyd Central High School.
Grote, a senior, finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:06.91 to reach Saturday's championship finals. The top eight finishers in each event advance to the finals while the next eight move onto the consolation finals. Grote was ninth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:28.25.
All three Madison relay teams advanced. The 200-yard medley relay team of Amber Umila, Keelan Watkins, Tess Lemen and Taylor Phillips finished sixth in 2:09.16. Watkins, Phillips, Lemen and Lauren Anderson were sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:53.57 and sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:16.10.
