Hanover rallies from double-digits to beat Denison

Hanover's women's basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit to knock off Denison (Ohio) 75-70 in the opening game of the Purple Raider Classic in Alliance, Ohio on Friday.
Elyse Weddle, a senior forward from Bloomfield, hit the go-ahead basket to give the Panthers a 71-70 lead with 52 seconds left in the contest.
Alicia Hopkins scored from inside to bump Hanover's cushion to 73-70 with 37 seconds to go, and freshman Jessie Davidson dropped in two free throws with eight seconds left to seal the victory.
Denison (3-1) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opening four minutes of action and held a 32-20 lead with six minutes left in the half.
Caitlin Bischoff hit two 3-pointers to help the Panthers trim the margin to 38-30 at the half.
Bischoff scored seven points and Stephanie Pahren hit a pair of buckets to pull Hanover within one at 49-48 with 12 minutes to play in the second period.
Megan Caudill nailed a 3-pointer to push the Panthers ahead 53-51 with 10:52 remaining and, from that point, the squads were tied five times and swapped the lead on three occasions down the stretch.
Hanover (1-2) plays host Mount Union today.
