Hanover College's volleyball squad secured a berth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament and retained possession of the Victory Ball Trophy with a three-game sweep of Franklin College Wednesday in Franklin.

Hanover posted a 25-12, 29-27, 25-18 win over its archrival to maintain possession of the Victory Ball for the sixth consecutive season. The triumph raised the Panthers' record to 17-13 overall and 5-4 in the league.

Hanover will be the No. 5 seed in next week's HCAC tournament. The Panthers will open play Tuesday at No. 4 Defiance (Ohio).

With the loss, Franklin dropped to 8-19 overall and 1-7 in the Heartland Conference.

Men's soccer battles to scoreless tie at Franklin

Hanover College's men's soccer team battled Franklin College to a scoreless tie through two overtime periods Wednesday in Franklin.

Hanover outshot the Grizzlies 18-10, but could not put the game-winner between the pipes. The Panthers had a 9-4 advantage in shots through the second half and two overtime periods.

John Wittich, a junior from West Chester, Ohio, led the Panthers' attack with five shots, including two shots on goal. Joaquin Acuna, a freshman from Santiago, Chile, attempted four shots.

The Panthers collected eight corner kicks, while Franklin (6-7-2, 4-2-1 Heartland) attempted four.

Goalie Trevor Korfhagen, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, had three saves through 110 minutes in Hanover's net.

Hanover, now 6-7-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the HCAC, travels to Defiance (Ohio) on Saturday in its final regular season match.
