Hanover women advance to semifinals

Hanover advanced to the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament with a 70-58 win over Rose-Hulman Friday in Lexington, Ky.
Courtney Prater, a senior from Anderson, had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Hanover, now 19-7 on the season. Katie Gahimer, a senior from St. Paul, had 16 points and eight boards, while Alicia Hopkins, a sophomore from Columbus, added 11 points and eight steals.
Addie Johnson scored 15 points and Kelsey Ploof had 14 to lead Rose-Hulman, which ended its season at 12-14.
Hanover's defense forced 33 turnovers, while the offense shot 42 percent from the floor (22-of-53) and made 24-of-34 free throws (71 percent).
Rose-Hulman was 21-of-49 from the field (43 percent) and 14-of-21 from the foul stripe (67 percent).
The victory was Hanover's 13th straight against the Engineers and third this season. The win also marks the 85th career victory for the Panthers' senior class, which sets the school record for wins in a four-year span by eclipsing last year's group.
Hanover will square off at 5 p.m. today against Franklin in one of the HCAC's two semifinal matches. Host Transylvania and Manchester will meet at 3 p.m. in the first semifinal.
