Courtney Prater's game-high 18 points and seven rebounds powered Hanover's women to a 74-61 basketball win over Wittenberg (Ohio) on Saturday and a sweep of the Hanover Classic.
Alicia Hopkins, a sophomore from Columbus, joined Prater with a strong all-around performance, scoring 12 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season.
Over the last two games, Prater, a senior from Anderson, has totaled 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Wittenberg (1-1) scored first on a Kim Replogle jumper, but the margin was short-lived, as consecutive buckets by Caitlin Bischoff, a sophomore from Atlanta, Ind., and Prater gave Hanover a 4-2 lead at the 18:24 mark.
Despite several Tiger runs, the Panthers never surrendered the lead the remainder of the game.
Hanover led 33-22 at halftime and Wittenberg never seriously threatened in the second half as Prater notched 14 second half points to help stretch the Panther lead to as much as 20.
Hanover's press forced 25 turnovers while collecting 13 steals. Bischoff led the effort with four.
Katie Brewer, a senior from Jamestown, joined Hopkins in shooting 50 percent from 3-point range, hitting three treys as the team shot 40.7 percent (23-59) from the field while limiting Wittenberg to 36.5 percent (24-63).
Brewer scored her first points of the season in strong fashion and finished with 10 points
Hanover has Thanksgiving Week off before playing Nov. 17 at Centre (Ky.).
In Saturday's other matchup, Transylvania (Ky.) beat Adrian (Mich.) 71-63 as Wittenberg and Transy both were 1-1 and Adrian was 0-2 in the Classic.
