Hanover women fall at Franklin

Hanover women's basketball dropped its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener to rival Franklin on Wednesday, 82-76 in Franklin.
The game featured 16 ties and 12 lead changes throughout the contest.
Hanover (1-4, 0-1 HCAC) led 65-64 with five minutes left in the game before Franklin (2-5, 1-0 HCAC) used an 11-0 run over a two-minute span to go up 75-65 with three minutes to go.
Jessie Davidson, a freshman from nearby Austin, and Alicia Hopkins, a junior from Columbus, each hit a bucket, trimming the deficit to just six with 51 seconds left but the Grizzlies sank 7-of-10 free throws in the final minute to close out the win.
Hanover trailed by as many as six in the first half before coming back to lead 37-35 at halftime. The Panthers stayed hot at the beginning the second half and led 48-41 with 16:05 remaining. But the lead did not last long as Franklin used a 12-3 run over the next three minutes to go up 53-51.
Senior Elyse Weddle scored a career-high 22 points, leading four Panthers in double figures. Hopkins and Davidson each had 11 points while junior Caitlin Bischoff scored 10.
Franklin also had four reach double figures. Katie Brewer posted a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Kayle Comer had 17 points while Lindsey Dall and Lauren DeSutter had 12 and 11, respectively.
Hanover shot 31-of-62 from the field but were only 4-of-12 from 3-point range. Franklin shot slightly less than 50 percent from the field going 28-of-57 but was 7-of-17 from the arc for 41 percent.
The Grizzlies also owned a 39-31 advantage on the boards and attempted 10 more free throws than the Panthers and made nine more than Hanover.
