Hanover women hold off MSJ with 7 late free throws

Hanover used seven free throws in the final minute of play to hold off Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) 84-76 Wednesday in Delhi, Ohio.
Elyse Weddle scored 16 of her career-high 18 points and Courtney Prater notched 11 as Hanover built a 50-44 lead at halftime.
Prater added 10 more points early in the second half as the Panthers jumped to an 18-point lead (66-48) on a 16-4 run in the opening seven minutes of the period.
Mount St. Joseph (3-15, 2-9 Heartland) countered with a 16-4 rally to creep back into the game at 70-64 with six minutes left.
Katie Gahimer hit a 3-pointer and added a short jumper to up the margin to 77-67 with 2:53 left but Brooke Mosler made back-to-back jumpers, Alex Donald nailed a 3-pointer and Chelsea Castleberry scored inside to pull the Lions within a possession (79-76) with 26 seconds left.
Prater hit one free throw with 15 seconds left. Freshman Ashley Malloy, who rebounded Prater's miss, made two free throws just a second later and, After Mount missed a 3-pointer, Gahimer added a pair of foul shots with three seconds to go for the final margin.
Hanover shot 27-of-58 from the field (46.6 percent) and 28-of-35 from the free-throw line (80 percent).
Prater netted a game-high 26 points. Gahimer added 14 points and Alicia Hopkins added 12.
Heidi McManus led Mount St. Joseph with 17 points, while Donald and Mosler scored 12 each for the Lions
Mount St. Joseph shot 46 percent from the field (29-of-63) and earned a 41-31 advantage on the boards.
The victory marked the Panthers' 10th straight against Mount and upped the Panthers' record to 14-4 overall and 8-3 in the HCAC.
Hanover visits Manchester Saturday.
