Shawe Memorial battled back from an early deficit but ended up falling to Crothersville by three, 41-38, in the final pool play game of the Henryville Tip-Off Classic on Friday in Crothersville.
The Hilltoppers lost starting guard and leading scorer Maddie Waller to an ankle injury in the first quarter and found themselves trailing 13-5 after the first eight minutes.
But Shawe battled back to tie the score 28-28 heading into the fourth quarter.
Despite suffering its third loss in as many games, coach Camille Deuser was encouraged by what she saw on the floor.
"I am so proud of how hard my girls played. They never gave up and fought the entire game. They finally looked like a real basketball team," Deuser said.
"Taylor Grote settled down and played her game. We got some good physical inside play from Megan Goebel," Deuser added. "Stephanie Snodgrass took Maddie's spot and really stepped up and played well for us."
Grote led Shawe with 19 points and four steals. Claire Higgins had seven points, Goebel had five points and four rebounds, Hannah Storm scored three points and had six rebounds, and Kaitlyn Boehm and Shannon Fry scored two points each.
Shawe, now 0-3, visits Providence Tuesday.
