Madison Jacob Nichols (17) and Shawe keeper Sid Thevenow came together on a close play during the two team's controlled scrimmage Wednesday at Madison Junior High. Thevenow slid in to grab the ball just before Nichols could control it. The Cub freshman then leapt over the keeper (top) and landed harmlessly on the other side (bottom).
The two rivals, who have not played a regular-season match for four years, played three periods of varying lengths of time and got all of their respective players into the game. Madison won the game 5-2.
Both teams open the regular season next week, oddly by playing schools that are in the other's conference. Shawe hosts Jennings County from the Hoosier Hills Conference on Tuesday while Madison travels to Southwestern of the Ohio River Valley Conference on Thursday.
