Alex Thurnall scored a career-high 16 points and Olivia Crozier recorded her first double-double of the season as Madison's girls rolled past previously unbeaten Salem 60-39 on the road Saturday.
Thurnall, a junior guard, was 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 6-of-11 overall to lead the Lady Cubs' scoring attack. Crozier added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 10 rebounds to anchor the inside.
Madison, ranked 10th in Class 3A, got off to another quick start and led 12-4 after the first quarter and 30-12 at halftime. Salem, which came into the game a perfect 3-0, chipped away in the second half but never threatened.
All nine players who dressed scored for Madison for a second-straight game. Whitney Wynn and Hannah Cain had eight points each while Delanie Jones had four points and five assists.
The Cubs shot only 38 percent (21-for-55) for the game and committed 24 turnovers but those numbers were far superior to Salem. The Lions were just 12-of-42 (29 percent) from the field and committed 31 turnovers.
Brittany Walker scored 12 points and Alex Davidson had 10 to lead Salem.
Madison now takes a perfect 3-0 record into the annual Turkey Shootout against winless Southwestern on Wednesday. The girls-boys doubleheader, which will be at Madison, will begin at 6 p.m. The school's two jayveen teams will meet tonight.
