Lady Cubs swim second, boys third at own invitational meet

Madison's swim teams both had strong performances in their own invitational Saturday at the junior high.
The girls scored 217 points to finish second to Batesville's 258. The boys finished third with 203.
"This was a very good meet for us. We had several swimmers with very good times for this early in the year," Madison coach Stacy Crawley said. "Hayden McMahon was our only win in the 100 free, however, all of our swimmers had strong finishes keeping us close to the front all day."
McMahon won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.29. He was also second in the 50 free in 24.04.
Other top results for the Madison boys were: Tate Turner, Calvin Willhite, Flynn Moore and McMahon, second, 200 free relay, 1:41.51; Grant Ward, Willhite, McMahon and Moore, third, 200 medley relay, 1:57.21; Ward, fourth, 200 IM, 2:31.16 and fourth, 100 back, 1:08.95; Willhite, fourth, 100 breast, 1:13.15; Sean Brink, Ward, Turner and Trajen Jenkins, fourth, 400 free relay, 4:13.71; Moore, fifth, 50 free, 2:39.29; Turner, fifth, 100 free, 59.65; Brink, fifth, 500 free, 6:04.20.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tess Lemen, Hannah Riley, Lauren Anderson and Keelin Watkins was the Madison's girls top finisher with a second place in 4:20.41.
Other top finishes for the girls were: Keelin Watkins, third, 200 IM, 2:41.10 and third, 100 breast, 1:22.89; Taylor Phillips, third, 50 free, 29.16 and fourth, 100 back, 1:18.74; Tess Lemen, third, 100 fly, 1:13.14 and fifth, 500 free, 6:37.66; Lauren Anderson, third, 100 free, 1:03.96 and fourth, 200 free, 2:21.17; Phillips, Amber Umila, Bobbi Cruz and Riley, third, 200 free relay, 2:00.93; Phillips, Watkins, Lemen and Anderson, third, 200 medley relay, 2:15.08; and Cruz, fifth, 100 breast, 1:26.71.
Team scores for the girls were: Batesville, 258; Madison, 217; Scottsburg, 214; Salem, 161; Corydon, 137; North Harrison, 136; and Silver Creek, 45.
Team scores in the boys meet were: Batesville, 269; Corydon, 232; Madison, 203; Scottsburg, 160; Silver Creek, 108; Salem, 105; North Harrison, 63.
Madison hosts Floyd Central Tuesday.
