Switzerland County girls soccer picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday, defeating Ohio River Valley Conference foe Southwestern, 3-0 in Hanover.

"We were plagued with some major setbacks with three of our starting players on the sidelines due to injuries," Switzerland County coach Roy Leap said. "The rest of the players stepped up and filled out the field nicely for us."

The Pacers scored three minutes into the game when Bre Ricketts booted one into the net for a 1-0 lead. After a 25 minute scoring drought, junior Megan Dasis benefited from a crossed shot, scoring a goal in the 28th minute. Switzerland County led at the half 2-0.

The Pacers dealt with an adjusted defensive line-up in the second half but had enough offense left for one goal. Ricketts kicked in her second goal of the evening for the eventual final score of 3-0.

"We lost tonight but we played a much better game tonight both as individuals and as a team," Southwestern coach Nancy Totten said. "Crystal Snead and Heather Totten did a great job adjusting to a new defensive line-up. Ashley Reardon had 25 saves and Opel Punkiriya added new dimensions to her game tonight."

Switzerland County (1-1, 1-0 ORVC) travels to Madison today. Southwestern will look for their first win of the year on Wednesday, traveling to Salem.
