Southwestern and Shawe cross country ran in the New Washington Invitational on Tuesday.

Southwestern claimed the girls title with 53 points. Savannah Rueda led the way, finishing fourth in a time of 21:45. Cass Lawson was eighth in 22:46; Jayla Watson, 12th, 23:48; Austin Courtney, 14th, 24:06; and Ashton Elliot, 15th, 24:09 rounded out the scoring. Rebekah Anderson ran in 26:05 and Gianna Bennett ran in 27:56.

Shawe did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score. Hannah Storm finished 19th in 24:59 and Sarelia Garcia placed 32nd at 27:50. Samantha Whalen ran 51st.

In the boys 5K, Southwestern scored 147 points to finish fourth. Ryan Furnish was 13th in 18:27 and Josiah Lawson was 18th in 18:57. Jayde Ary, 26th, 19:31; Alex Marion, 38th, 20:04; and Camden Chatham, 52nd, 21:50 collected points for the Rebels. Non-scorers were Jacob Shaffer at 22:36 and Michael Hedges at 22:54.

Shawe did not field a complete team. Skip Mass led the Hilltoppers with a 42nd place finish in a personal best time of 20:24. Andrew Ott finished 55th in 21:52 and Collin Hambrick was 69th.

Southwestern runs in the Ohio River Valley Conference championship Monday at Hanover College. Shawe runs on Thursday at Switzerland County.
