The Madison boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Hokum Karem meet in Sellersburg on Tuesday.
Unlike a typical cross country meet, the Hokum Karem pairs two runners together, with each individual running one mile in a relay style event for a six mile total.
In the boys portion of the meet, Madison finished in third place. The duo of Quenton White and Justin Roberts placed sixth, while David Gibson and Alex Nunan also placed in the top ten, finishing ninth.
The Cubs' third team of Joshua Howell and Gunner Jones finished 20th.
"We are very proud of the team's commitment and dedication this early on in the season," Madison boys coach Randy Allen said. "They improved from last year's fifth place finish to third this year so their hard work is starting to show."
In the girls portion of the meet, the Lady Cubs finished in sixth place.
Brittany Jaynes and Hannah Brady finished 18th and the team of Ashlee Allen and Liz Ray placed 20th. Grace Spencer and Lilly Owens finished in the 29th spot.
"The girls gave a gutsy performance today," Cubs girls coach Mark Seib said. "We were missing our top two runners tonight due to illness so the other girls gave all they had."
Madison competes in the Columbus Invitational on Saturday.
