Madison tennis beats Southwestern, 4-1

Madison defeated Southwestern 4-1 in boys tennis Monday at the Madison Junior High School courts.

The Cubs won all three singles matches and the No. 1 doubles - all in straight sets - to claim the team victory.
"It is always good to win," Madison coach Desna Ratcliff said. "The challenge is to play your own game and stay focused."
Madison's Cole Callahan defeated the Rebels' Christian Hayes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Ratcliff was happy with Callahan's performance.
"Callahan had several aces and has been working on improving his strokes and court position," Ratcliff said. "All of this worked when he could have struggled."
Jarod Perry and Adam Jackson scored the Rebels' lone win when they hold off Madison's Luke Lipps and Ceaton Bowman 7-1 in the first set and then cruised 6-1 in the second.
In singles, Kyle Sauley beat Greggory Cline 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Sam McIlvain defeated Camden Bentley 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Clark Vaughn and Noah Stookey knocked off Tyler Jones and Brynen Chitwood 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Southwestern hosts South Dearborn on today. Madison (5-3) visits Seymour on Thursday.
Jets beat Shawe volleyball, 3-0
Shawe volleyball fell to sectional foe Hauser in three sets Monday in Hope.
The host Jets rolled to a 25-13, 25-7, 25-12 win.
"Hauser has a very strong team but our girls just could not put anything together tonight," Shawe coach Kelly Hill said. "We struggled from the beginning and just could not get anything started."
Jenna Armstrong was 20-for-21 setting, 18-for-18 passing with a dig and 7-of-8 serving with an ace for Shawe. Stephanie Snodgrass was 4-for-5 hitting with two kills and 23-for-24 passing with four digs.
Taylor Grote was 5-of-7 hitting with two kills and 25-of-26 passing with two digs, Amelia Koehler was 10-of-12 setting and 4-for-4 serving, Shelby Greene was 3-of-6 hitting with a kill and Megan Goebel was 6-of-7 serving with two aces.
Shawe visits Borden today.
Warriors edge Shawe soccer, 3-2
Shawe Memorial dropped a 3-2 decision to Scottsburg in soccer action at home on Saturday.
After falling behind 1-0, the Hilltoppers took the lead with second-half goals by freshman Jacob Lundergan and Patrick Bear. Santiago Gonzalez picked up the assist on Lundergan's goal.
Scottsburg answered Shawe's two goals with two of its own to pull out the win.
Shawe, now 1-4, visits Switzerland County today.
Carroll runs at Grant Co. Invitational
Carroll County's cross country teams competed in the Grant County Invitational over the weekend.
Both the boys and girls teams finished 17th out of 34 teams. Every Carroll runner from top to bottom improved their times.
Carroll's next meet is on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Carroll County when the Panthers host Trimble County, Gallatin County and Williamstown.
