Madison's track and field club competed in the Hoosier Qualifier indoor meet at Indiana Wesleyan University in Richmond on Saturday.
Both teams had several strong performances. Jordan Partee was third in the boys long jump in 21 feet, 5.75 inches while Wayne Sherbahn was fourth in the boys 55-meter dash in 6.63.
Emily Holland had the top finish for the Lady Cubs, tying for sixth in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
"There were some solid early season performances turned in by the girls today. It was nice to see where we are against some good competition. This gives us an idea of what we need to work on," Madison coach Mark Seib said.
"I was pleasantly surprised by some of the girls performances considering we haven't really been able to work on some of our technical events like high jump, throws and hurdles because of the bad weather," Seib added. "So for Emily (Holland), Olivia (Crozier), Macky (Hecox), and Raven (Lee) to come in here, after just getting done with basketball a couple of weeks ago, and to turn in some solid performances was nice to see today."
Other finishes for the Madison boys were: Shawn Garner, Patrick Knight, Josh Howell and Justin Robertson, sixth, distance medley relay, 12:04.46; Tate Turner, eighth, pole vault, 11-6; Nick Palmer, 10th, pole vault, 11-6; Jordan Partee, 13th, high jump, 5-6; David Gibson, 15th, 3200 run, 10:39.99; Nash Grooms, Trace Harris, Palmer and Partee, 15th, 800 relay, 1:39.60; Nathan Riley, 19th, shot put, 38-7.25; Gibson, Garner, Howell and Robertson, 19th, 3200 relay, 10:11.61; Robertson, 21st, 3200 run, 11:25.01; Avery Bock, Logan Cassidy, Grooms and Patrick Knight, 22nd, 1600 relay, 4:19.07; Alex Schmidlapp, 24th, shot put, 37-5.5; Josh Scott, 26th, long jump, 18-0.75; and Harris, 48th, 55 dash, 7.77.
