CONISTON, United Kingdom - J.W. Myers set a new H1 Unlimited UIM world speed record for a kilometer Monday in the United Kingdom.
Myers drove the U-11 Miss Peters & May to an average speed of 176.110 mph on the one kilometer course at Coniston Water after topping out at 180 mph during the attempt. The speed broke the United Kingdom record for propeller-driven craft.
"It was great setting a new record in the Peters & May hydroplane today. Our crew has worked hard all season and it feels good that we were rewarded with this record," Myers said in a release by the team. "The water was smooth as glass which caused the boat to be stickier than we would have preferred. Hopefully, we will get a little breeze tomorrow that will provide us with a light chop."
Myers will try to increase his speed today weather permitting. Fellow Peters & May teammate and Unlimited Racing Group crew member Aaron Salmon is also in Coniston attempting to set the O350 class World Record. Salmon failed to finished his attempt due to mechanical problems. It is uncertain whether Salmon will be able to make another attempt.
