Walton-Verona jumped all over winless Trimble County Friday night to roll out to a 48-0 lead and invoke the running clock for much of the second half.
The Raiders eventually pushed across a pair of touchdowns against the Bearcats' backups - the first with 38 seconds left in the third quarter and the second with 2:54 left in the game - to go with a late safety en route to a 48-16 loss in Walton.
Walton-Verona scored on a 43-yard pass from quarterback Justin Cline to Chris Latimore on the Bearcats' first possession of the game and then rolled to a 21-0 lead by the close of the first quarter.
Walton led 41-0 at halftime before scoring its final touchdown with 7:50 left in the third quarter before calling off the dogs and playing out the running clock.
Class 2A Walton-Verona is now 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the District while Trimble is 0-8 and 0-3 in District play. The Bearcats host Lexington. Christian in their regular season finale on Friday.
The loss was Trimble County's 16th straight dating back to the Raiders' last win 10-8 over Clinton County on Aug. 24 of last year. Trimble visits Carroll County Friday before closing out the season at Kentucky Country Day on Nov. 1.
