Switzerland County, Southwestern and Shawe opened the 2013-2014 campaign at the preseason Ohio River Valley Conference Girls Basketball Jamboree on Saturday at South Ripley.
Switzerland County went 2-0 in the event, defeating the host Raiders 13-12 in the first quarter and beating Milan in the second quarter 14-5. Jac-Cen-Del then defeated the Indians in the third quarter 19-6 before sliding past Southwestern in the fourth quarter 11-7.
The Rebels bounced back in the fifth quarter, edging Rising Sun 10-7. In the final two quarters, Shawe lost to the Shiners 12-9 but came back in the seventh period to defeat South Ripley 11-8.
For the Hilltoppers, Maddie Waller led the team with four points in the sixth quarter while Claire Higgins and Katelyn Moore had two and Kaitlyn Boehm scored one. In the seventh quarter, Megg Hensler had six points, Waller had three and Hannah Storm had two.
Southwestern and Switzerland County face off on Tuesday in Vevay. Shawe hosts Christian Academy in the first round of the Henryville Tip-Off Tournament on Tuesday.
